We have moved on from the Crested Butte area, we had a great mountain bike ride before we left.  We road the forest roads from Mt. Crested Butte up the valley to the small town of Gothic, over Schofield Pass (10,707') then looped back to Crested Butte around Mt. Baldy (11,300' at the pass).  The descent was pretty hairy for a tandem.  We had to stop several times to let the disc brakes cool off.  The views around the loop were spectacular.

After finishing our ride and grabbing a quick shower, we were on our way to Breckenridge for dinner and on to Dillion for the night.

On Sunday, we drove to Idaho Springs (7500') and Ted rode from there to the top of Mt Evans (14,100') for a total of 28 miles and 6600' of climbing.  The weather was really good for the ride, but just after getting to the top, a thunderstorm rolled in.  Ted made it up the mountain in 3 hours and 50 minutes with riding time of around 3:15.  The views all the way up were spectacular!

Beth and I are finally on the road after we both retired ... well sort of ... we retired from our current jobs, but almost immediately went back to work. I am working for RIEtech Global, a small company in Abq and Beth was doing contract work at Albuquerque Public Schools up until last week.

We are now off on a 4 week trip through the Rocky Mountain states and the Pacific NW. We are currently in Crested Butte, CO for a couple of days, then Dillon, CO; Estes Park, CO; Jackson Hole, WY; Coeur d'Alene, ID; Seattle, WA; Winthrop, WA; Mt Rainier, WA; Port Angeles, WA... and then back to ABQ.

We have the car packed with bikes and hiking gear, so this is planned to be a very active trip.
